How Can Residency Education Support Graduates’ Abilities to Shift Practices and Populations over Time?


How should we shape residency to support the flexibility of scope and practice necessary for long term service to patients and communities? The COVID pandemic has focused attention to the value of family physicians being able to flex to whatever communities need. How do we build in the foundational attitudes, skills and knowledge to ensure long term flexibility?

Given that family physicians’ practices evolve over their careers, how do we prepare personal physicians to respond to their communities’ emerging needs and for changing locations, populations and scope of practice over their careers?
